Gav 4 Free EXTENDED for 2024 SUMMER AND FALL
Did you know that one of the requirements for Gav 4 Free is to have a complete financial aid application on file with the Gavilan Financial Aid Office?
If you have a balance due for at least one semester (Fall 23, Spring 24, Summer 24) of the 23/24 academic year and have not completed a financial aid application, either a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or a CADAA (California Dream Act Application).
It’s not too late to apply! Complete your 23/24 FAFSA or CADAA now! We can help - you don’t need to navigate this process on your own! The Financial Aid office and Peer Mentors are here to help you. To complete a 2023–24 FAFSA or CADAA, you need:
- Student Documents: Social Security card, Alien Registration card or Visa/Passport (if applicable), Driver’s License, 2021 Federal Tax Return and/or W-2 forms (if student worked in 2021).
- Parent/Guardian Documents if you are a dependent student (if you have special circumstances, please let us know): Social Security card (if applicable), 2021 Federal Tax Return and/or W-2 forms and records of untaxed income such as child support, TANF/Cash Aid, social security benefits along with bank account records, investments, and/or business records.
- FSAID for FAFSA filers: Students and (1) parent/guardian will each need to create an account for an FSAID (Federal Electronic Signature) if you don’t already have one. to: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch

Gav 4 Free is available to all those who complete one of the applications for Financial Aid. Complete and submit one of these applications. There are no income requirements.
Gav 4 Free covers tuition and student fees. Please see fee chart in View Restrictions block below.
How many units are free?
All enrolled credit units are eligible for Gav 4 Free. Registration policy requires students who wish to enroll in 6+ units during Summer and 18+ units for Fall to meet with a counselor to submit a Petition for Exceptions to Registration Policies form for review & approval.
Are Non CA Residents eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Yes. Out of State and Undocumented students are eligible after completing a FAFSA or CA Dream Act application.
Are F1 International Students eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Unfortunately not.
Are material fees and books also free?
Material fees and books are separate from tuition. Students will be responsible for material fees and books.
Are Community Education courses free?
No, students will be responsible for the tuition fees taken through Community Education. Community Education courses are not for credit. Gav 4 Free only applies to credit courses.
Are Police Academy, Fire Academy, and EMT Academy courses free?
Gav 4 Free is available for students who are NOT sponsored by a third party (i.e. employer). Please submit a financial aid application.
Can I add classes after the semester begins? Will those classes be free?
Yes, courses added to your schedule after the start of the term, including late start courses, will be free.
I have an outstanding balances from previous semesters, am I still eligible for Gav 4 Free? Students are responsible for outstanding balances from previous semesters. Students may have a registration hold if they have a financial aid balance due. Students who owe financial aid funds will need to repay balance to have registration hold removed. I completed my Financial Aid application (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act application for 2023-2024. Do I need to resubmit for Summer and Fall 2024?
Your 2023-2024 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act) will help us determine your eligibility for Summer 2024. To be considered for Gav 4 Free for Fall 2024, you will need to submit a 2024-2025 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act). Please note applications must be fully processed (complete application with signatures).
Is there a deadline to complete the FAFSA, or CA Dream Act application to be eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Deadline to submit your 2023-2024 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act) for Summer 2024 is June 30, 2024. Submit your 2024-2025 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act) as soon responsible to help us determine your eligibility for Fall 2024.
