Class Prerequisite: Advisory; basic Spanish speaking, writing, and reading skills
Contact Hours: 5 lecture 2.5 lab.
 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This second year Spanish course provides a review of basic structures, expansion of patterns, vocabulary and idioms through discussion and composition. Through comparative analysis of selected literary works, the course develops an awareness of cultural and literary contributions from the 21 Spanish speaking societies. The course is taught in Spanish with emphasis on composition as a medium of expression.
 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. to improve reading, writing and speaking skills

  2. to help you develop the power of language, image, symbol and metaphor in your live

  3. to obtain a basic understanding and appraise the historical, social, cultural and aesthetic qualities of Hispanic culture

  4. to be prepared for continued study of Spanish at a higher level

  5. speak Spanish, speak Spanish and speak Spanish!!!

Organization of text:

Identidades consists of ten chapters, each focusing on a theme: music, Mayan civilization, the working world, hobbies and leisure, ecology and environment, Latinos in the United States, wellness, strange phenomena, holidays and traditions, and the arts. Each chapter theme is reflected in the vocabulary, grammar functions, culture, and the reading, writing and speaking activities.

    Note: Language acquisition requires a process of intensive communication and your participation is essential. Many strategies are used to  facilitate learning and to minimize any filter to learning such as anxiety shyness and stress.

    SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS:

    1. Understand how languages are learned and the relationship to study and class activity.

    2. Follow the sequence of study recommended.

    3. Study on a daily basis.

    4. Take advantage of all opportunities to increase your comprehension of Spanish.

    5. Maximum use of on-campus services.
